In consultation with a WMG mentor, interns will select an Internship Track to guide their internship experience. This Internship Track will offer the opportunity for in-depth training in a key focus area while contributing as part of applications-driven interdisciplinary team. See below for the types of possible Internship Tracks available through this internship program (Note: Career Track availability will be based on current projects at WMG.)

  • Geospatial Technologies : Create and analyze geospatial data(e.g. GPS, GIS, remote sensing,LiDAR) for research and advocacy related to water conservation,river restoration, and watershed planning. Click here for full position description.
  • Urban Sustainable Living: Assist in the care and maintenance of an urban sustainable living demonstration site including systems such as composting toilets, veggie gardens, chickens and water harvesting systems. Click here for full position description.
  • Applied Water Harvesting: Participate in the care and monitoring of public rain gardens learn and apply water harvesting installation skills. Assist in capacity building, program improvement and volunteer management for the Monsoon Squad program Click here for full position description.
  • Environmental Education: Assist in developing hands-on curriculum and activites to engage students and members of the community in water conservation and watershed education. Click here for full position description.
  • River Restoration Planning, Advocacy, and Policy: Help build the River-Run Network program through hands-on environmental education activites, citizen science monitoring program, watershed research and analysis to support river restoration plans, or local advocacy and policy work through the Santa Cruz River Watershed Collaborative.   • River Restoration Planning, Site Assessment, Design and Implementation: Help build the River Run Network program through hands-on restroation planning and implementaion activites, citizen science monitoring and education programs, and watershed research and analysis to support river restroation plans.   • Multimedia Marketing and Communications: Work alongside our outreach team to engage and educate diverse audiences through producing social media posts, short videos, and print materials. Click here for full position description.
  • Spanish Communications and Outreach: Engage the Latino community to participate in our various signature programs, such as the River Run Network, through Spanish media outlets and community outreach. Click here for full position description.

  • Sustainable Systems Construction: Become a member of WMG's field crew and construct sustainable systems such as water harvesting, arroyo restoration, native and edible landscapes, and ecosanitaion practices at public and private sites.
  • Environmental Stewardship: Engage with community members at WMG's Living Lab & Learning Center and other outreach venues through teaching watershed management principles and practices (ranging from water harvesting to soil stewardship to river restoration) that can be applied at home. Assist with organizing classes, tours, and special events. Participate in the care and monitoring of native and edible gardens and water harvesting systems.
  • Engineering and Design: Support development of water harvesting and green infrastructure designs for stormwater management and watershed restoration.
  • Latino Community Organizing: Engage marginalized populations into WMG's community, particularly Latino communities.
